Teach Me To Pray

Dear Lord I need a favor

Can you help me out tonight?

I'm trying hard to learn

Please help me get this right.

I want to be a Christian

And feel you in my heart

I don't know what to say

And I don't know where to start.

You see, I've never learned to pray

Nor got down upon my knees

So if you could help me out

I'll try so hard to please.

I want to feel you touch me

Like others say you do

And know you're right beside me

With all that I pursue.

I need you to watch over me

And walk beside me all the way

So dear Lord could you help

As I try to learn to pray?

I want to go to heaven

When my time on earth is through

I don't want to miss the chance

To be up there with you.

You know I think it must be you

Who helped me many times

Was it you that gave a little push

On those hills I had to climb?

When I stumbled did you catch me

On those rough and rocky roads

The times that I almost fell

Overburdened from my loads?

There's much I need to thank you for

I have so much to say

All the things I should have said

But I don't know how to pray.

If you could teach me to pray

I could say my thanks to you

And tell you I appreciate

All the wondrous things you do.
